Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of integration, implementation, and the supporting and inhibiting factors of the integration of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Pancasila Education based on multicultural education within the Merdeka Curriculum at SMK Hisba Buana Semarang. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for curriculum affairs, Islamic Religious Education teachers, Pancasila Education teachers, and students. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the integration of Islamic Religious Education and Pancasila Education was implemented through classroom learning, school culture, and the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) by internalizing the values of tolerance, mutual cooperation, brotherhood, justice, and respect for diversity. The implementation was carried out through student-centered contextual learning, an inclusive school culture, and P5 activities under the Global Diversity theme, which fostered tolerance, inclusiveness, and students’ national awareness. Supporting factors included the commitment of school leaders and teachers, the flexibility of the Merdeka Curriculum, a conducive school culture, and the implementation of P5 activities. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors included the limited availability of integrative learning materials, restricted instructional time, uneven teacher understanding of multicultural education, and the lack of an optimal character assessment system. This study concludes that the integration of Islamic Religious Education and Pancasila Education based on multicultural education serves as an effective character-strengthening model in supporting the realization of the Pancasila Student Profile, particularly in the dimensions of faith, piety, noble character, and global diversity awareness.
